Problem: Selfie Stick
The origin of the selfie stick can be traced back in 1925 as a useless invention at the time. However, with the improvement of technology and influence of smartphones, it went viral among tourists and families. Selfie sticks are handy, but they’re limited by the stick’s reach and there is always a stick in pictures. Besides, they’re banned across a range of public venues due to its safety issues and inconvenience to others.
Rapid Prototyping
After the initial ideation phase, I created prototypes for form studies. By identifying the key mechanical parts, I got sufficient information to move on to the Finite Element Analysis.
Finite Element Analysis
The ball joint is the most important part of the whole mechanical structure. It is the key for the rotation movement. The stress of the socket on the back flap determines if the ball joint will fail after impacts. i.e. free drop, assembly, and misuse etc.
Design For Manufacturability
Once we finished the FEA and the PCB design, I started building the internal mechanical structure, and worked with our manufacturers for the DFM documents.
Final Product
After the Kickstarter Campaign, we eventually put Podo Camera into Urban Outfitters, Nordstrom, and Amazon.
Stick & Shoot®
Take your camera and stick it.
Podo sticks to nearly any surface with its micro-adhesive sticky pad. The pad doesn't wear out and it washes with water.
Smartphone, meet smart camera.
Podo shoots photo, video, time lapse, and more. It can even send photos directly to your phone. For iOS and Android.
Re-stickable Pad.
A porous material that provides immense suction to almost all kinds of surfaces. There is no glue, no residue. Just need to rinse the pad with clean water, and it’ll regain its stickiness.

Podo Camera Carrying Case
The Podo Camera Carrying Case was designed to make Podo Camera more accessible. Its contour fits Podo Camera perfectly, and provides a strong and secure grip. With the aid of gravitation and tension from the lanyard, the grip becomes even stronger after assembling with the Podo Camera.
Anti-Slip
The gravity induces the tension on the top of the case, which pulls and tightens the case to secure the Podo Camera.
The Grip
The SPI-A2 finish on the extrusions of the case increases the contact surfaces against the Podo Camera to give more traction, and the extrusions provide more grip to keep the Podo Camera from slipping out.
Podo Camera Waterproof Case
Podo Camera Waterproof Case was designed to let users operate the Podo Camera under water up to 1 meter. The Podo Camera Waterproof Case is IPX7 approved.
Inspired by the 32-surface-molecule, Buckyball, that lets users rotate and sit the Podo Camera in different angles in the wet environments, and its strong geometric structure provides the best protection for the Podo Camera.
The standard camera ¼”-20 screw mount on the Podo Camera Waterproof Case is compatible with all kinds of standard camera mounts on the market.
The SPI-A1 optical polished PC925AU lens gives the Podo Camera a crystal clear vision without distortion and warpage under water.
